There can be few better places in North Wales than Plas Coch as a perfect base for an adventure-packed break. With some of the highest mountains south of the Scottish border, famous rock-climbing crags, long-distance trails and glorious lowland walking on our doorstep, together with good public transport links, the choices are limitless.

Mountain Walking

In addition to Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and its partner peak Garnedd Ugain, the peaks of  Moel Eilio, Foel Gron, Foel Goch, Moel Cynghorion, Elidir Fach and the bigger peaks of Elidir Fawr, Y Garn and Glyder Fawr are all accessible from Plas Coch, with routes providing varying levels of challenge. You can use the local Sherpa bus service or a taxi to devise a route that leads straight back to the comfort of Plas Coch

Llanberis is surrounded by open access countryside, the Padarn Country Park and farmland with intriguing public footpaths. The way-marked walk around Llyn Padarn is a half-day favourite with our guests.

There are numerous scrambling and climbing routes in the area for beginners and the more experienced and confident mountaineers. Our Map Room is equipped with local guidebooks and maps and Llanberis hosts the most famous climbing shops in the UK. We can help you find a qualified instructor to help you conquer the routes best suited to your skills and aspirations.

Mountain bike routes are easily accessed directly from Plas Coch and a network of long distance traffic-free cycle paths follow the North Wales coast. However the many cycling groups that stay at Plas Coch usually head into the mountains and valleys for long hills and speedy descents.

Llyn Padarn / Parc Padarn

Padarn Country Park is centred around Llyn Padarn- one of the largest lakes in Wales, home of famous ‘Lone Tree’, a designated bathing water and Site of Special Scientific Interest. Parc Padarn offers a series of way- marked trail routes and Llyn Padarn is popular for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking.

Plas Coch is situated right at the start of Day 2 of this new, varied and incredibly beautiful lowland trail through the National Park and therefore makes an excellent base for the first few days of the trail- with the obvious opportunity to add an ascent of Snowdon into your walking holiday.

Welsh 3000s

Welsh 3000s

A famous and challenging route that takes in all of the Welsh Mountains over 3000 foot tall- starting at Pen Y Pass (a short bus ride up the Llanberis Pass) and working its way over to Abergwyngregyn, having summitted 15 mountains. Whether you are planning to hike them all in one go or spread these magnificent peaks over a few days, Plas Coch is the perfect base.
